If I remember correctly, there is information on the paperwork that you receive your card with that states something along the lines of:-
"Please check the information on the card, if any of it is correct please call XXX number / write to us at YYY"

Its not abt H1-B abuse, its abt the way it was brought up. Instead of looking into his own house (USCIS and DOL) Sen.Durbin held Indian companies responsible and almost started bashing them. Little did he anticipate that they will come back in this way.
H1-B abuse is a different issue. Sen. Durbin should have looked into rulemaking part of the game than bashing players of the game.
When the US was instrumental in doing WTO negotiations during late 90's (BTW-your's truely grew up during that period witnessing this through newspaper articles - was an exact reversal of roles played by India and US then)they never realized that globalizing markets would lead to globalizing labor market also. Now, IT has become a virtual industry with a pretty much open labor market. Professionals making Rs.50000 ($1200) are competing with those making $5000 a month. US politicians made a classic judgement error in 90's. Now, protectionist measures are being brought in by the very same people who championed globalization for a decade.
The letter puts things in perspective for sen. Durbin. It seems to carry a veiled warning about backlash of these protectionist measures on the US companies doing business in India. Starting from McDonalds,subway,coke (now even Walmart) to Ford, GM, IBM, Pfizer, Merck, Novartis, Abott, J&J, JP Morgan, Bank of America and many more have huge business interests in India. The size of Indian market totals upto atleast 0.8 billion human individuals with need for housing, auto, computers, electronics, healthcare, finance, consumer products etc. Losing an inch of it can make an international co. nervous.
As far as Indian consumers go they now have options- British, German, Japanese, French and now even the Indian companies.
Durbin tried to scare a cat, unfortunately for him it turned out to be a big wild cat- aTiger.

ielts.org refers you to els.edu....
els.edu has a locationin my State/city. However, that location is not listed in the ielts.org website. I am trying to get in touch with my local els.edu office, but does anyone know if all els.edu offices (locations) can conduct this English Test for Canadian Immigration??

I hope I interpret this correctly.
Only cases filed after April 1st will be going into Nebraska-texas centers for processing.
Which means, earlier cases that are already filed will be processed where they were filed...
I have no clue how they decide which case will stay in nebraska and which will be transfered to texas.
In my case, I-140 was sent to Nebraska on April 6th and when I received receipt notice 10 days later; first three letters showed that the case has been transfered to Texas, hence texas issued receipt number...and they will be processing the case..
Since you filed in vermont - you are fine, you will get it processed from vermont. If you filed concurrently with I-485 then that application too will be processed in vermont.
The new rule and transfer of cases applies to cases applied on or after April 1st 2006

Come Jan '08 (6 months after the July fiasco) and these companies will learn their lesson hard way. July filers will be able to exercise AC-21 rule to switch employers and most of these desi consulting companies who have no end clients and only supply cheap H1 consultants will have to fold up.

I am planning to take visa appointment in Chennai consulate for my 8th year H-1B extension and my wife's H-4. When i checked the vfs website yesterday, dates were open for last week of Sep'2006. Today it is already showing only dates in Nov'2006 as open dates. Howcome Oct'2006 dates never showed up. Were the appointments finished that fast for Oct'2006 ? Any other members who observed this, please post your thoughts.

My I-140 filed with TSC is still pending since August 2007. I hope I get a decision ( hopefully positive) by Sep 2009!

It is worse than your estimates below because when green card is issued spouse and children are also counted in the quota unlike the h1 where spouse and children are not counted in the quota. Even if we assume each green card applicat has only one child, there would be 3 visa numbers used for each GC applicant. Going by that India has a demand for 150K GC as per the perm statistics but it gets only about 10000 per year. At this rate people from India who applied for GC in 06 and 07 would have to wait about 15 years and 30 years respectively to get the GC!!!!!!!!

I do have same query since I got a offer from teksystem and not sure if i join them would i be in the same trouble during AC21. Can i even do AC21, what should i do.
Anyone please advice, what happens if i join this contract position, leaving my perm job since they are not able to give me projects and not paying either. So later on once this contract is over and if I join a perm job, will there be any questions if I do not do AC21 now.
Please help. Is there any chance of getting my I-1485 rejected. I-140 approved 3 years back and Got EAD 2 years back too.
