While your story is interesting, but I beg to differ again, because, immigration is not something which would be discussed in the Congress for the first time, if we are successfull in bringing something. Each and every single lawmaker in this country understand immigration to the extent that you may not even start to guess...People who oppose us have been putting their restrictive bills again and again so they are going to continue doing that despite of us do something or sleep, do you think Numbersusa wait for us to do something, their anti.... mill will keep churning.
Let me give you a story:
On one of my teams; there was a super star supervisor. He was accused of having inappropriate e-mails.
HR wanted him fired and opened up a big investigation. His manager comes to me and tells me that we have to do everything possible to save him as he is a very key person and irreplaceable.
I went upto HR with my boss to tell them that this particular person could not be fired under any circumstance and that we should let this indiscretion go.
They should be and my boss the e-mails. The e-mails basically were so male chaveunistic and racist. I probably had sent these types of funny jokes in my career and so had my boss and probably so have all of us. We didn't think it was a big deal when taken in context but we had to risk our own credibility and fight with HR to save him. In the process of doing so; we would have lost our credibility with the evidence against him. Even if we fought it; we would have still lost but it would have stained our reputation with HR area by trying to fight for this guy.
Now; senators/congressmen who don't have much knowledge and you present to them why the country quota, etc., should be changed; will be given evidence through their research of what is going on with h-1b, labors in fast procesing states, etc., In this environment where there is sentiment against immigration it will fall on deaf ears and maybe even skew things in the future for you with the politicians because they are getting insight into this stuff at the wrong time.
Take my example of adopting newphew. As I said this isn't the only case; when they start seeing that number of people from India is due to many causes (arranged marriage and adding dependents always from India after they arrive here; staffing companies, h-1b violations, etc, etc.,); the circumstances are not on your side. This is the fourth recession I am living through in this country. In just about each one; immigrants bore a dispropritanate share of blame for the countries ills.

Nice assumptions...but we need evidence. Do any USCIS documents say they would need proof of a *running* income? (After all, you don't have paystubs for a future job in same/similar occupation.) Since GC is for *future* job, why can't self-employment in same/similar occupation, under AC21 and with *projected* revenues, be enough? Do they ask for paystubs and proof of long-term commitments/contracts in EVL-RFE?

Also, you could open/register your LLC (by spending $400) for your self-employment to sound more "legitimate"--but that's certainly not a requirement.

I am happy to announce that I have received the EAD cards today (just like rc0878 had suggested). I should not have doubted the encouragement and estimation of the experience here.
So, I received the EAD cards dated Sept 18th, expiry is one year from the issue date i.e. Sept 17th, 2008 (unlike someone else's cards which were valid for only 3 months).
Let me know if someone wants to ask any other information.

Too bad you did not bother reading up on the net before you took your job. I researched what is involved prior to leaving grad school and I knew it was a long wait. Like I said quota is there because of numbers / diversity. US needs programmers from more than just one country.

Sincerely, I dont think its a problem for anyone to send $100 or 200. Most of the people here are not seeing any action from IV core in the last 6-12 months. And we guess same to hope for even for future. Many guys in other forums are writing against IV saying they will no more pursue any campaigns as the dates of core members are now current and they will not do anything that may jeopardize it. I am also not seeing any action eversince I joined here. So what is the point. Why dont we fight our case oursleves. I know unity is strenght, but when its not there, doing nothing is a a bad idea. This is not to hurt anyone.

I would say that Social Sec Taxes and Medicare are unfair taxes. Some H-1Bs (read people from India and China) are not treated the same way as citizens, Green Card holders, and othe H-1Bs (read from Western Europe). Since they wont give us GC's.., we have to eventually go home. This implies, no Medicare or Social Sec benefits. Going by a conservative estimate.. there are about 500,000 GC applications in the blackhole for an average of 3 yrs. Each pays on an average $4,200 SC and Medicare taxes. So the state owes us $6.3 Billion... We sincerely request that we be treated fairly and our money be given back to us.. OR.. easy for them, give us GC

It high time that these guys get kicked on what ever, I have seen so many of my friends frustated due to non payment and get scarred to do anything against it..... I appreciate your courage , If they do bussiness and employ people they should legally pay, So many poeple come from India with kids and family and suffer so much when they are not getting paid on bench...I can only sympathise with their situation , Shame on such bussiness...BLOOD SUCKERS, MANIACS . Training, H1b ...etc takes money ...so what he not stupid(desi employer) to do it for free , He makes altleast 10 times of what he spends in just 6 months when the candidate is on project.

If OP gets into law suite and if it requires lots of money would you be willing to donate some money to fight law suite because it will not only help OP but it will scare such shameless employer that there people out there in community who are willing to help if they do something wrong with employees.

But many people do so even after knowing the facts about desi employers. Every thing has risks and rewards, and many people know risks but they get into it for rewards.

agree, it cannot be really changed by us. even if people willingly try to achieve a new mindset with positive programming, it takes months to achieve.
Guess we have to work with what we have. There may be a solution, but only people with a similar mindset can come up with it.
People discuss superbowl, cricket, food, movies, schools, everything, people discuss about their 140, 485 , ead etc... everyone knows there is a problem but pretend as if there is no problem and it is just a part of life.
Sometime back on IV the motivation levels was different. We did have a sizable crowd during the 2007 rally in DC. We did have 200+ people doing advocacy work.
I hope people come forward again.
Looks like we lack people with good leadership qualities on IV now especially a lot of IV members are not active anymore and guess it is just slow.
